Bloodborne: The Card Game - The Hunter's Nightmare

Delving into the Chalice Dungeon and taking on the vile monsters within was already challenging enough. But a new breed of terror has started roaming the halls, and Hunters must beware. These new creatures will not only haunt them in life, but in the afterlife as well. However, the Hunters aren’t going in unprepared against these vile creatures. They have discovered new runes of power that they can use to augment their abilities, allowing them to take on new roles, suited to their own hunting style.

Bloodborne: The Card Game - The Hunter’s Nightmare expansion gives players several new ways to upgrade their experience. Each of the variants can be used separately, or all together to make each new game unique.

There are eight new Final Bosses that Hunters can face off against. They can be selected at random, or chosen specifically, each one has new special abilities and powers to make sure that no trip through the Chalice Dungeon is an easy one. Along with the Final Bosses, there’s new Chalice Dungeon Boss cards, Chalice Dungeon Monster cards, and Hunter Upgrade cards that can be added to the respective decks from the base game. Players will have to be on their toes for when these new challenges show up.

At the start of the game, players can upgrade their Hunter using the new Runes cards. Each of these cards give players bonuses for utilizing certain weapon combinations and strategies during the game. Now, no two Hunters will start out exactly alike, as one may wish to fight it out in melee while another is content to lob in shots from afar, and another could make it so a Hunter gains extra bonuses from dealing the final blow to a monster. Players will draw two of these cards before the game begins and pick one to equip to their Hunter. It’s dangerous down in the dungeon, best to be as prepared as you can be.

Try as they might to avoid it, Hunters are going to succumb to the claws, fangs, and weapons carried by the monsters and bosses in the Chalice Dungeon. That is inevitable, but when using the new Death tokens, each misstep will cost players more than simply their unbanked Blood Echoes. These tokens are placed at the farthest end of a Hunter’s Trophy Track on their Hunter’s Board. With each death, a player must move the Death tokens corresponding to the monster type that killed them down their Track, meaning that they will be able to collect fewer and fewer Trophies of those particular types. Lose too many, and players will find themselves unable to collect the Trophies they so desperately desire.

Using each of these different items, players can custom-make their Bloodborne experience. Adding in just the new Weapons and Runes can make the going easier. While tossing in extra monsters and the Death Tokens can make the Chalice Dungeon just that much more deadly. Either way, these new cards are sure to have players coming back to take on the darkness again and again.

Bloodborne: The Card Game - The Hunter’s Nightmare expansion will be available in stores on April 27.
