CMON Feature Friday: 2017 in Review

Another year is coming to a close, and it’s time for us to look back and take stock of the last 12 months. For CMON, it’s been an incredible year with great strides made in gaming, events, and staffing. We’ve grown over the past year in no small part due to the support we’ve had from fans around the world. We want to take a moment to say a huge Thank You to anyone who has played a CMON game over the past year!

For this week’s CMON Feature Friday, we’re taking a look at the things that made 2017 special for us.

Kickstarters

CMON ran four different Kickstarter campaigns over the course of the year. The World of SMOG: Rise of Moloch started us off in early January, followed by the hotly anticipated Rising Sun, the latest addition to the Zombicide franchise: Green Horde, and finally, A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game. Due to the incredible response we received, we set records and then broke them in terms of funds raised and stretch goals unlocked. The fun thing about Kickstarters is that it brings a community of people together for a few weeks as they watch the campaign grow and develop. We can’t thank you enough for the support and we can’t wait to do it again on January 16th when the HATE campaign launches.

The CMON Family

Our team has grown in some exciting ways over the past year. We’ve continued to add industry leading talent to the CMON family to help us bring you the best gaming experiences possible. Eric M. Lang took a position as the Director of Game Design, and we couldn’t be happier to add such an influential mind to our ranks. Adrian Smith signed on as CMON’s Lead Artist, bringing his amazing illustration skills to the team. Our art department also grew with the addition of Edouard Guiton as Senior Artist. On the operations side, CMON announced Jules Vautour was named as the Chief Operating Officer and Adam Lovell joined us as the General Manager of the Alpharetta office. These are just a few of the amazing people that have added their skills to the CMON team in 2017. We also are lucky to have some of the best event staff in the industry today. Which brings us to…

Gaming Events

Board gaming conventions are the best and most exciting time of the year! For a publisher like CMON, it gives us a chance to put a face on the games we put out and share our passion for them with public. In many ways, conventions are the front line of the industry. They’re an opportunity to make connections with people, try out the latest games, and get a sneak peek at what’s coming down the line. Of course, there’s CMON Expo in May, but we attended tons of events throughout the year including Origins, Gen Con, BGG Con, Essen Spiel, PAX Unplugged, San Diego ComiCon, Lucca Comics and Games, and so many more. Big events are great because you get to see a lot of people. Smaller events allow for making much more of a connection with the public and having more thorough conversations about the games. When CMON attends events, we gather some of the best demo staff out there. When you learn a game at a convention from one of our team members, you can be assured you’re being taught by a passionate gaming professional. If you’re going to be at any shows next year, be sure to stop by the CMON booth and say hi!

It’s hard to encapsulate an entire year in a single post, but these were some of the events and moments that were big for us over the past year. What moments stood out to you in 2017? What was your favorite game that you played? What gaming event made the biggest impact on you? What did you consider the story of the year in board games in 2017? We’d love to hear your thoughts. Reach out to us on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #CMONFeatureFriday and let us know your gaming stories of 2017.

On a final note for the year, however you celebrate the holidays and New Year, we hope you’re safe and happy and surrounded by people you can play some games with.
