CMON Feature Friday: Just Desserts

We’ve long-recognized the relationship between board games and food. It makes sense. You’re sitting around a table with friends, talking, laughing, spending hours together. A few months back, we took a look at some different foods that paired well with board games, and every good meal deserves a good ending.

For this week’s CMON Feature Friday, we’re taking a look at some delicious sweet treats that would be a good fit when you enter your endgame.

The Godfather: Corleone’s Empire with Cannoli

In one of the most famous dessert-related movie quotes, Clemenza instructs Rocco to “Leave the gun, take the cannoli.” It’s an iconic scene from The Godfather that was actually improvised by the actor. Nevertheless, the traditional Italian pastry from the Sicily region will be forever tied to the movie, and it’s the perfect compliment when playing the epic new ‘thug placement’ game by Eric M. Lang.

Rising Sun with Dorayaki

While battling to reshape feudal Japan in your image, chances are you’re going to get a bit peckish. The Dorayaki is a traditional sweet Japanese treat that will give you the strength you need to lead your clan to victory. It consists of a sweet red bean paste covered by two round pancake-like patties. Dorayaki translates to gong, and while it may refer to the shape of the patties, the origin story centers around a traveling samurai who left his gong at the home of a farmer. That farmer went on to use the gong to fry up the pancake patties. Hence the name Dorayaki. Either way, this traditional Japanese treat works well as a light refreshment when playing Rising Sun.

Zombicide: Green Horde with Green Tea Ice Cream

When you’re fighting for survival against a horde of zombie orcs, things can get a little heated. What better way to keep cool than a bowl or cone of Green Tea ice cream? This ice cream is popular in Asian cultures, but has become widely available in North American markets in recent years. Based on the ground leaves of the matcha plant, this sweet treat is actually secretly healthy. It’s just the sort of delicious energy boost you’ll need to take down the Green Horde!
