HATE: The Mercenaries

Not everyone in this brutal landscape has chosen to return to society. Some prefer to walk the world alone, living or dying by their own wits and strength. It can make for a lonely existence, but when you don’t love anything, you don’t have anything to lose.

Mercenaries are lone wolves. They aren’t tied to any Tribe. They find comfort in solitude and wouldn’t want it any other way.

They are mysterious figures wouldn’t fight for a Tribe… at least, not by choice.  Throughout a Chronicle of HATE, players will come across Mercenaries. These solitary creatures would prefer to go their own way, but with the right incentive, they could be convinced to join the war, fighting on the side of the player’s Tribe. Sometimes convincing someone requires offering a carrot, but these savage warriors are much more familiar with the enlightening power of the stick. Once they are done making their case, the Mercenary will be begging to join the Tribe, and more than willing to offer their unique skills to the cause.

Nothing comes without sacrifice in this world, and players must eliminate a Tribe member to make room when a Mercenary joins them. It can be hard to lose a family member, but losing the war means death for everyone. The Mercenaries offer special skills that could turn the tide of battle in the favor of a Tribe possessing their powers.

Blood is thicker than water, but when you’re soaked in it from head to toe, hacking and slashing your way through a wall of enemies, you don’t care if the person fighting beside you has been a Tribe member since birth, or if you dragged them out of a hole and beat them into submission last week. You want to know that they are going to keep you alive for another day, and help you kill the people that stand in your path. Mercenaries can make a killer Tribe into a force of nature that will tear enemies limb from limb.

In this world, survival walks on a razor’s edge. A slight breeze can push a Tribe in any direction, and adding a Mercenary to their ranks can signal a coming storm.

HATE is coming exclusively to Kickstarter on January 16 at 3PM EST.
